conjugation- the list of a verb's tenses tense- when an action of state of being takes place - time principal parts- the basic forms of a verb
infinitive- present tense or base form of the verb (often preceded by "to") present - infinitive or base form of the verb, may end in -s present participle- present tense form + -ing
past - base form of the verb + -ed past participle -past tense + have, has, had
The Tenses
present tense - happens regularly; also expresses a general truth [base form of the verb, may also end in -s] past tense- an action that already happened
[base form of the verb + -ed] future tense - an action that will happen in the future [will or shall + present tense form]
present perfect - something that happened at an indefinite time in the past; also tells about an action that happened in the past and is still happening now
[have, has + past participle] past perfect - names an action that happened before another action or event in the past [had + past participle]
future perfect - indicates that an action will have been completed (finished or "perfected") at some point in the future [will + have + past participle]
present progressive tense - an action that is continuing right now [am, are, is + present participle] past progressive - an action that was continuing at an earlier time
[was, were + present participle] future progressive - indicated continuing action, something that will be happening, going on, at some point in the future
[will + be + present participle]
